I need someone who understands me in My Life

Sometimes it’s hard to regulate my emotions.

For over a decade we have been working with Neurodiverse children & young people and we have had some amazing times doing so. We know how difficult it can be for each child as individuals and parents/carers so we learn with them, about who they are, likes or dislikes and significant interests.

Our aim: is to support the social and emotional well being of children and young people by providing a calm and soothing environment which is not too over stimulating and where student progression can be achieved at the pace suited to each individual.

We aim to enable our students to work on self regulation and reflection for those who need such support in times of discomfort and during anxious periods through identifying and working on different coping strategies.

Well being at My Life

Working with Social and Emotional Well-being is not a one size fits all approach and with great effort we do our best to support the different needs.

Expressive art: with all year groups we use expressive art to share our feelings and emotions. We may approach this individually or as a group to encourage social development among peers.

Active art: again introduced to all year groups we encourage, drama and dance to stimulate positive receptors and release energy. This in particular sits well with our primary children and more so those with ADHD and/or Autism.

Soft toys and play: the majority of our students (primary in particular) take well to the use of comforting toys and bean bags to reflect on the emotions and feelings of ourselves and others when we become dysregulated.

Word play: using a variation of words to describe how we feel in certain situations, used written or verbally depending on the student(s).

Things to know: each student has a key worker who checks in regularly with learners regarding their well-being – we have an open office for students to speak to any staff member – we have noise defenders for students – we have sensory and fidget toys/objects – but we don’t know it all and are very keen to learn about individual needs.
